Growing up in their tight-knit Modern Orthodox community, Sheva, Sarah, and Tali were best friends—an inseparable girl gang—until Sheva and Sarah stopped talking to each other. Now, a decade later, they’re estranged, living lives both within and outside of the community. When a devastating cancer diagnosis forces them back together, all three gather in Sheva’s childhood home, where they are confronted—quite literally—by their younger selves. As whiskey flows and secrets surface, nostalgia gives way to reckoning, and their younger selves embody the unspoken wants and shames that haunt them. Moving from present to past and back again (sometimes existing in both at the same time), it’s a story about the messiness of growing up, loss, and forgiveness. Our Bodies & Other Shames transports us to a world where friendship is the religion and the Spice Girls are the prayer.
