Saviors in the Night and Anita Headline 2010 San Francisco Jewish Film Festival!

Two films from Menemsha, Saviors in the Night and Anita will be represented at this year's San Francisco Jewish Film Festival, the first and largest Jewish film festival in the world, celebrating its 30th anniversary this year!

Saviors in the Night, the masterful film from German director Ludi Boeken is being honored as the festival's Opening Night Film! Saviors is the true story of a family of farmers who bravely risk their lives to hide and save a Jewish family from the Nazis. In attendance will be 98-year-old Marga Spiegel, whose best-selling memoirs inspired the film, as well as Boeken and actress Lia Hoensbroech.

The festival's Centerpiece Film is Anita, a inspiring Argentine film directed by Marcos Carnevale. The film tells the story of Anita, a young woman with Down syndrome who gets lost in Buenos Aires after the 1994 bomb attack on the AMIA Jewish Community Center. Alejandra Manzo, the actress who plays Anita, will be attending the first screening.

The San Francisco Jewish Film Festival runs July 24th to August 9th. For more info, visit the SFJFF website.

Nora's Will Wins Mexico's Best Picture, 7 Ariel Awards!

Nora's Will was the big winner at this year's Ariel Awards, held in Mexico City on Tuesday, April 13th. The Ariel Awards are Mexico's most prestigious film prize, and this year the Mexican Film Academy named Cinco Dias Sin Nora (Nora's Will) the Best Picture of the Year! Nora's Will was also awarded Best First Work, Best Original Screenplay, Best Actor (Fernando Luján), Best Supporting Actress (Angelina Peláez), Best Original Score and Best Makeup. Writer/Director Mariana Chenillo is the first female director to win an Ariel Award for Best Picture. Congratulations to all the winners!

Kawasaki's Rose Wins Big at Berlinale!

Kawasaki's Rose won the Ecumenical Award in the Panorama Section at the Berlin International Film Festival. It also won the CICAE Award (Panorama) which is given by the International Confederation of Art House Cinemas.
